The internet is loaded with tons of information. Every day you can probably find a plethora of new articles sprouting up about health and fitness.  Let’s face it, some of the information is good and some is….well not so good! If you’re not sure about what to do, you can very easily get overwhelmed.  So with so much information out there how do you know what is good and informative and what is not? This got me thinking from a professional point of view, if I had to give someone who knew nothing about health and fitness advice what would I? Well in all honesty, usually the simplest answers are the best.  A lot of times you will see long articles with overstuffed terminology that the average person simply will not understand.  I decided I am going to take the simplest most straightforward advice and explain why they can change anyone’s total health for the better. These are five tips that I like to call my basic five. As a matter of fact doing these five simple steps will improve your overall health more than you would realize. These simple steps may not only help your health and fitness in the right direction but in some cases, improve major issues like cholesterol, blood pressure, levels of stress, and chronic diseases. With that being said, let’s look at some of the simplest health and fitness tips and why they make sense.
Make smarter dietary choices.
If you want to be healthier, you simply have to eat healthier. You don’t have to have to have a degree in nutrition to understand that if you eat a lot of unhealthy foods you are not going to look and feel that great. avoid additives
A rule of thumb for eating healthy is “Eat as close to Mother Nature as possible.” This simply means eat foods that are as natural as possible. You want to make sure you are eating a lot of vegetables, some fruits, lots of lean meats, and whole grain foods. Avoid foods high in additives, preservatives, and fillers. If you can’t pronounce an ingredient, you probably should not be eating it.
Eat More Vegetables
veggie stackYes, listen to your mother’s advice and eat more veggies. Veggies are great for your health for two main reasons. The first reason is vegetables provide a lot of vitamins and minerals to help the body function more efficiently. The second reason is vegetables are very nutrient dense. This means you can eat a lot of vegetables and not take in a lot of excess calories. This will cut down on cravings and the urge to eat excess amounts of not so good foods. A good goal is to aim to eat 3-7 servings of vegetables per day.
Exercise More and Become More Active
One thing that will help your overall health a lot is to exercise more and become more active. That’s right exercise more! If you currently are in a regular exercise routine this may not apply to you but if you are not, get moving. I’m not saying you have to spend extra time in a gym but just going out and being a little more active with improve your total health more than you can imagine. Even going out for a walk for twenty minutes a day has been shown to give significant health benefits. overweight officeStudies have shown that people, who have office jobs and do not move around a lot, put on an average of 15- 20 pounds in six months. That’s the average!!! The reason for this weight gain is not only poor food choices and snacking, but mostly a lack of moving around in a sedentary lifestyle.
Drink More Water
This is a big one with a lot of people. They simply do not drink enough water to properly function. Water is liquid life. To put in perspective how important water is, think about this:
bottled-water
The human body can survive three to four weeks without food but without enough water the human body will perish in about 7-8 days. Water is vitally important because our bodies are made up of about 73% water. When your body is made up of that much of a substance it is going to be vitally important that you are supplying your body with that substance. Every cell in our body contains some water in it. Most people go around in a constant state of dehydration every day and do not realize it. A good way to know what state of dehydration you ar in is what I call the pee pee test. Next time you go to the bathroom check the color of your urine. If it is anything but clear or very faint yellow, you are in a state of dehydration. Dehydration can lead to symptoms ranging from tiredness, dry skin, muscle cramping, back pains, fainting, and in extreme cases death. Aim to drink about 65% of your body weight in ounces of water.
Example:
A 150 lb. guy should aim to drink 97.5 ounces daily.
150*.65%=97.5 oz. If you are not a water drinker start off small and work your way up to 65% over time.
If you are an avid exerciser or are very active you should aim to drink a lot more due to water you will lose by being active.
Improving your health does not have to be a complex overwhelming task.  By taking a few simple and basic steps, you can actually improve your health more than you realize, having you feel and function a lot better.
There are four simple things anyone can do to instantly improve their health in no time.  By eating better quality foods, having more vegetables in your diet, drinking more water, and being more active you can be well on your way to better health.
